Two Commercial Forms, Two Different Process Decisions
Sodium Ethoxide (CAS 141-52-6) is commonly offered as a high-assay solid and as a solution containing approximately 21% active material in ethanol. The active chemical is the same, but the commercial forms create different requirements for charging, storage, solvent balance and logistics. A buyer should therefore specify the form at the beginning of an inquiry.
When the Solid Form May Fit
Solid Sodium Ethoxide offers higher active concentration and avoids bringing a large ethanol load into the process. It may suit plants equipped to handle and dissolve a hygroscopic, corrosive solid under controlled conditions. The evaluation should cover dust or exposure controls, package opening, moisture exclusion, dissolution time and heat management. Headline assay alone does not show whether the material will be convenient in a particular reactor system.
When 21% Solution May Fit
A 21% solution in ethanol is pumpable and ready for metered addition. This can simplify dosing and reduce the need to dissolve solid material, provided that ethanol is compatible with the reaction and downstream separation. Buyers should confirm the effective concentration tolerance, solvent quality, water-related limits and the combined sodium hydroxide plus sodium carbonate specification.
