Aniline as MDI Feedstock
Aniline (CAS 62-53-3) is the key raw material for methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI), which is then polymerized into polyurethane foams, elastomers and coatings. Global MDI capacity directly drives aniline demand; roughly 70% of aniline output goes into isocyanate chains.
Typical Aniline Quality for Isocyanate Grade
| Parameter | Isocyanate Grade |
|---|---|
| Purity | ≥99.5% |
| Nitrobenzene | ≤0.001% |
| Water | ≤0.1% |
| Toluene | ≤0.05% |
| Color (APHA) | ≤15 |
Other Major Aniline Applications
- Rubber chemicals: Accelerators (MBT, CBS) and antioxidants for tire production.
- Dyes and pigments: Diazo coupling intermediate for azo dyes.
- Pharmaceuticals: Precursor for paracetamol (acetaminophen) and sulfa drugs.
- Agriculture: Herbicide and fungicide intermediates.
Packaging and Export
Aniline is a toxic liquid (UN 1548, Class 6.1, PG II). Export is in 200 L UN-approved steel drums (~200 kg net), or ISO tank containers for large isocyanate producers. DG declaration, SDS and batch COA provided for every shipment.
